This week we Barry County fractivists had a booth at the Barry County Fair. It was an interesting week. Hotter than blue-blazes, even though we were inside so technically “in the shade” there was no a/c and any breeze that came through rarely reached our booth. We had a fan, but it only blew hot air on us.
I was at the booth from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, I was also at the booth Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
I would like to thank all those who made this possible, and who gave their time to “man” the booth the entire 11 hours everyday for 6 days.
At the fair with us, looking for re-election, were our county prosecutor, and our State Representative…among many other booths of various origin. Some were vendors selling goods, some were handing out information for the different political parties, and some were there to get new clients for their businesses.
We got a lot of signatures on petitions, trained a few new circulators, gave out a lot of information and educational sources regarding horizontal hydraulic fracturing, and spoke with many, many people.
Even after two months of activity in the community by our group, the majority of people we encountered had no idea what fracking is.
So, please, PLEASE, if you are reading this blog and you are concerned about our environment…pass this blog address along to those you care about.
